Alumni Video Series: Meet
Sagar Pore

For nearly two decades, Sagar Pore has been fortunate to work in the exciting world of hospitality – a field full of amazing chances to grow personally and professionally. But his path to success started back in Mumbai where, as a child, his love for cooking and taking care of guests really took hold.

After school, he studied hospitality and received his diploma in Hotel Management, which led him to working for the Hyatt Group in India. As an industry with transferrable skills anywhere in the world, his curiosity for travel enticed him to explore hospitality further afield in Australia.

“In 2007, I embarked on a life-changing adventure when I decided to pursue my passion for hospitality and wine by enrolling in a Bachelor of Business at the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu Australia,” he says.

“It began with a dream fuelled by the inspiring stories of my friends who had experienced the excellence and global recognition of this esteemed institution… little did I know that this decision would shape the course of my life in ways beyond my imagination.”

He says his time at Le Cordon Bleu was nothing short of transformative and he was immersed in an environment filled with innovation, creativity and excellence.

“As a student at Le Cordon Bleu, I found myself surrounded by a diverse and passionate community of like-minded individuals from across the globe,” he recalls.

“Our shared passion for hospitality and wine created a bond that transcended borders and cultures.”

Beyond the classroom, he says Le Cordon Bleu provided him with numerous opportunities to gain practical experience and build a professional network.

It began with a dream fuelled by the inspiring stories of my friends who had experienced the excellence and global recognition of this esteemed institution… little did I know that this decision would shape the course of my life in ways beyond my imagination.

“The internships and placements arranged by the school exposed me to real-world challenges and further honed my skills… these experiences not only bolstered my confidence but also opened doors to exciting career prospects.”

Upon graduation, he worked as a F&B attendant at The Langham in Melbourne and eventually progressed into roles such as shift leader, head sommelier, assistant banquets manager and assistant F&B manager.

He then moved to Brisbane and worked as the F&B director for Stamford Plaza, managing multiple operations and implementing innovative concepts.

Now, he is the F&B director at the prestigious Shangri-La hotel in Sydney, where he leads seven departments, focusing on enhancing the guest experience through creative menu concepts and exceptional service.

His career has allowed him to move across Australia and meet many celebrities along the way – from famous Bollywood actors to superstars like Nicole Kidman, Kim Kardashian and Justin Bieber. Beyond the glitz and glamour, the industry has also connected him with world leaders and leaders of nations, such as Prime Ministers of India, Singapore and Australia.

“It’s these experiences that have shown me how hospitality can bring together the global elite,” he says.

“Moreover, hospitality goes beyond just hotels and restaurants – it reaches into business and military domains too.

“I've had the pleasure of welcoming and hosting significant events, such as the Chief of Defence Staff gathering that unites military leaders from countries like the US, Australia and Japan.

“This shows how hospitality plays a crucial role in bringing people together and fostering international cooperation.”

Sagar urges those with a passion for people and a hunger for excellence, to go forth and explore the bustling world of hospitality.

“It’s not just about great service, the industry is truly a gateway to the world,” he says.

“My experiences so far have shown me the incredible impact and opportunity the hospitality industry offers.”
