Meet Daeun Kang - a proud graduate of Le Cordon Bleu Australia - who is now the head chef at Japanese-French fine dining restaurant, Oborozuki. Daeun completed her Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management in 2016, and since then, has built a successful career in Sydney.

Daeun was naturally drawn to the culinary world, having grown up surrounded by good food and organic produce.

“My grandparents were professional farmers and my mum ran a small restaurant,” she explains.

“Food was always around me and it made me think that one day I could become a chef.”

This early exposure to the industry sparked her passion, leading her to take action by enrolling at Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney.

She says when choosing an institute to help turn her passion into a profession, she carefully considered the curriculum and practical components of the program.

Studying at Le Cordon Bleu was definitely worth it… the tutors have a wealth of experience and the school has a strong reputation.

“I wanted to make sure the lessons were hands-on and would help me in my actual job,” she says.

The Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management ensured she was ready to take on the culinary world, armed with the essential skills needed to thrive.

“It gave me the management skills I needed, from understanding business operations to financial management and marketing… these are all crucial aspects of working in hospitality,” she says.

“The industry placement also helped me develop my skills and gain valuable connections with chefs who later introduced me to new opportunities.”

Now, as head chef at fine dining establishment Oborozuki, Daeun’s responsibilities are vast and varied.

“I’m responsible for menu creation, managing costing, planning the restaurant’s goals, and ensuring everything stays on track,” she says.

Despite the high demands of the job, she finds immense joy in working alongside her dedicated team.

“The service and the team are what I love most,” she says.

“I enjoy running the kitchen during service, knowing that we’re creating an exceptional experience for our customers.”

Reflecting on her education, Daeun is clear that studying at Le Cordon Bleu was a worthwhile investment.

For aspiring chefs, Daeun has some valuable advice:
