Scholarship kickstarts career for cookbook author

le cordon bleu alumna rojina mcdonaldRojina McDonald’s journey from patisserie student to award-winning small business owner, author, publishing house CEO and industry speaker proves that a Le Cordon Bleu culinary certificate (and a large dose of courage, creativity, and talent) can take your career anywhere!

Growing up on her family’s olive grove in the McLaren Vale wine region in South Australia fuelled Rojina’s lifelong passion for artisan produce and local wine. After finishing a traineeship at a local hospitality business in her teens, she completed a Certificate in Small Business Management.

Rojina’s first culinary venture, a small business called Cupcakes by Rojina McDonald earned her a Le Cordon Bleu Basic Patisserie Scholarship in 2014 at the prestigious London Institute – an honour received by one applicant worldwide every year. The industry accolades continued, with Rojina accepting Young Entrepreneur of the Year from McLaren Vale Business Association.

'Winning the patisserie scholarship from Le Cordon Bleu London was a major stepping-stone in my career,' she says. After returning home to Mclaren Vale with a Patisserie Certificate from Le Cordon Bleu London, Rojina began working on her new project - a book showcasing the people and artisan produce of Fleurieu Peninsula.

Faces and Food of the Fleurieu launched in 2018 to great success and has now sold over 2000 copies. The cookbook is available in over 50 outlets, including tourist hubs, information centres, bookstores, gift shops, holiday rentals, Adelaide Airport and Pure South Speciality Store in Dubai.

I love this thoughtfully researched and beautifully presented collection of people, produce, stories and recipes showcasing everything iconic and authentic about the Fleurieu region. Every region needs a champion and Rojina McDonald has certainly captured this.

After winning another scholarship - this time to attend Fleurieu Future Leaders Program - Rojina stepped into a new role of keynote speaker at public events, inspiring others to pursue their dreams. With a second (companion) book showcasing Fleurieu Peninsula beverage producers soon to be released, Rojina’s career as a culinary writer and publisher is flourishing.

Follow in Rojina McDonald’s footsteps with a world-class culinary arts certificate from Le Cordon Bleu Australia.
