Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa, in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Canada, hosted a remarkable culinary event, A Taste of Chinese Cuisine, showcasing the rich and diverse traditions of Chinese gastronomy. This special event provided guests with an exclusive opportunity to experience the authentic flavors of China, prepared by esteemed chefs from the Chinese Embassy.
The event, held on Saturday, February 22nd at Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa, aimed to foster cultural exchange and deepen understanding of Chinese cuisine.
Guests were introduced to Sichuan Cuisine, which is famous for its spicy flavours, and to a dish of Dongbei Cuisine, which originated in the Qing Dynasty. To finish,they watched the preparation of a specialty cake.Guests were treated to a live cooking demonstration for each of three different dishes and enjoyed individual samples of each one.
These dishes were expertly prepared by a distinguished culinary team from the Chinese Embassy in Canada:
Li Changhai Chef Li Changhai is a certified Chinese Culinary Master with a wealth of experience in Sichuan, Cantonese, and Huaiyang cuisines. He has been honored with numerous accolades, including the Asian Golden Chef Award and multiple medals in national culinary competitions. Having worked as head chef at Chinese embassies worldwide, Chef Li currently serves at the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa, bringing his expertise in traditional Chinese flavors and intricate food carving artistry.
Wu Qiuhua Chef Wu Qiuhua is a specialist in Huaiyang cuisine. A graduate of Huai’an Food and Technology School in Jiangsu Province, he has honed his skills in prestigious establishments in China and diplomatic missions across Algeria, Romania, the UK, and Zambia. Since 2021, he has been contributing his culinary mastery to the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa, where he also showcases his talent in Chinese calligraphy.
Zhang Wenmei Pastry expert Zhang Wenmei graduated from Heilongjiang Provincial Tourism School and has extensive experience working in Chinese diplomatic missions around the world. She is a specialist in traditional Chinese pastries and dim sum, crafting delicacies that reflect China’s deep-rooted baking heritage. She joined the Chinese Embassy in Ottawa in 2023.
Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa is honored to have partnered with the Chinese Embassy in Canada to present this unique gastronomic experience. Through this initiative, guests were able to gain a deeper appreciation for the food culture of China.
