Le Cordon Bleu’s highly acclaimed Cuisine and Pastry certificate and diploma programmes are available in an intensive option, allowing students to study the same culinary techniques in less time. But what exactly is an intensive option, which programmes does it apply to and why would students choose an intensive study path? Here we answer these common questions and demystify these accelerated study programmes.
This means that rather than the standard nine months it takes to complete the diploma, where you would complete the Basic, Intermediate and Superior certificates one at a time at three months each, you undertake both Basic and Intermediate in the same term, followed by Superior. The time it takes to complete the full diploma is reduced by three months, so you graduate after just six months of study.
Naturally it is hard work to complete the diploma in a shorter space of time, but there are benefits to reducing the time you take to study.
Le Cordon Bleu London offer the intensive study option on its Diplôme de Cuisine and Diplôme de Pâtisserie, however this accelerated study path is only available for the Winter (January) and Summer (July) intakes. As mentioned above, both diploma programmes comprise Basic, Intermediate and Superior Certificates.
Both Basic and Intermediate certificates for either cuisine or patisserie can be studied as intensive options individually (a la carte), however the Superior certificate cannot be condensed from the standard 3-month programme. Basic Cuisine intensive and Basic Pâtisserie intensive each take just 7 weeks instead of the usual 12-13 weeks. Intermediate Cuisine intensive and Intermediate Pâtisserie intensive each take only 6 weeks compared to the standard options which take 12-13 weeks. This means that Basic Cuisine can be studied with Intermediate Cuisine within a 6 month period, as can Basic Pâtisserie and Intermediate Pâtisserie.
Superior Cuisine and Superior Pâtisserie certificates are the most advanced of the certificate programmes offered at Le Cordon Bleu London and as such, the teaching cannot be provided in any less time.
While we are unable to offer simultaneous study of Cuisine and Pâtisserie as intensive study paths, you can study both Cuisine and Pâtisserie alongside each other with the Grand Diplome programme. Despite taking a longer amount of time to complete, this 9 month programme covers both cuisine and patisserie simultaneously, providing the most robust culinary training available.
There are various reasons why a student may want to select the intensive option for their studies at Le Cordon Bleu, however the lesser time frame to complete the studies is the common motivation. Many students have time constraints which could prevent them from studying the full 9 month diplomas or even the 3 month certificate options. The intensive study paths allow for the same skills to be taught in less time which is an excellent incentive for those with limited time available to take off work, or those looking to enter the industry by a certain date.
